Public transport arrangement - Human Resources
Public transport arrangement
The new transport policy will go live on 1st November. From this date, if you fall under the Ground or KLM/KLC Cabin collective agreement, you will have to start recording journeys to and from work. If you travel by public transport (OV), you can apply for an NS-Business Card. Your public transport journeys will then be reimbursed directly by KLM.
For the coming year, employees who fall under the ground collective labour agreement can in addition to the NS-Business Card also choose to travel with their own public transport subscription (or OV-card).
You can also use the NS Business Card privately - the costs you incur will be deducted from your net salary a month later. If you do not want costs to be deducted from your net salary, use the NS Business Card only for commuting and business trips.
Different subscriptions
There are three different subscription types that can be put on the NS-Business Card, your situation determines which subscription you are entitled to.
- The Basis subscription: for off-peak hours, mostly during rush hours, or if you travel very little with public transport
- The 'Dal Voordeel' subscription: if you travel by public transport at least 2 times a month during off-peak hours for work (one-way travel). Off-peak hours are:
- On weekdays before 06:30, from 09:00-16:00 and after 18:30.
- On weekends all day between Friday 18:30 and Monday morning 06:30.
- On public holidays all day.
- The 'Traject Vrij' subscription: for when you travel the same route at least 3 times a week. You can't apply for this subscription yourself. If you qualify, you will receive an email.
Every 2 to 3 months an analysis is made of the use of the NS-Business Card for commuting and duty travel. During this analysis it is assessed whether the subscription chosen matches the use of the NS-Business Card. If this is not the case, you will be notified. In that case it is important that you convert your subscription yourself at an NS card machine.
You will find the advantages of the various types of subscription and other services linked to the NS-Business Card (NSBC) in the table below.

Overview in the transport registration system
Under the heading ‘my services’ you will find all information about your NS-Business Card subscription.
NS-Business Card stolen, lost or damaged?
If your NS-Business Card is stolen, lost or damaged, you can easily request a new one yourself via MyKLM. Your current card will be blocked, and you will receive your new card by mail at the address known to us in MyHR.
If you still have questions concerning the NS-Business Card? Then check the extensive Q&A.
Please note!
This extra option is only available for employees who joined KLM/KLC before 1st November 2024 and fall under the Ground collective labour agreement.
With this extra registration option, we offer the possibility to travel by public transport at a fee of €0.19 per kilometre (maximum 50 km one way). By doing so, we encourage public transport and thus fulfil the sustainability ambition of the new transport policy.
After a year, we will evaluate whether this solution is still the best fit and decide whether the option will continue.
From 1st November, there will be two ways to pay for your commute by public transport:
- You apply for an NS-Business Card. KLM will reimburse 100% of a ticket in 2nd class, regardless of the number of kilometres. For domestic duty travel, you can travel 100% free in 1st class. Read about how to apply for the card here.
- You buy yourself a public transport subscription or ticket. You register your journeys in the transport registration system under the option ‘public transport without NS-Business Card’. KLM will then reimburse €0.19 per kilometre, with a maximum of 50 kilometres per single journey. You cannot combine this option with the use of the NS-Business Card. Click here to see how to register a journey in the registration system.
You decide which option is most suitable for you. The best option for your situation will be determined by the number of journeys you make, whether you travel during peak or off-peak hours and how far you live from work.
If you still have questions, take a look at the extensive Travelling with your own Public Transport pass or ticket Q&A.
