Choose your cla here:
Everyone working in the Netherlands who is covered by the Ground CLA is entitled to a transport allowance and a home working allowance.
Transport policy until 31st October 2024
Transport allowance is paid based on the actual number of attendances. From 1st July 2022, a homework allowance was available for each day that you worked from home. As of November 2023, the home office allowance is €2.15 net per day worked from home. Your attendance and home working days are registered in MyRoster and you will receive the allowance for this retrospectively.
For details on how to receive your transport or home office allowance, refer to the frequently asked questions about transport allowance (Ground). Or use the button below to go directly to MyRoster.
You can still submit your turnouts and homework days in the period from 1 August to 31 October 2024 until 31 January 2025 in MyRoster.
Transport policy from 1st November 2024
From 1st November 2024, the more sustainably you travel for your commute, the higher transport allowance you will receive. In addition, you can travel by public transport free of charge (based on 2nd class, and for duty travel within the Netherlands based on 1st class). The home working allowance remains €2.15 net per day.
In order to receive the correct allowance, it’s important that you register your commuting journeys, domestic duty travel and your home working days in the transport registration system via MyKLM. For details on how to receive your transport or home office allowance, refer to the frequently asked questions about transport allowance (Ground).
When am I entitled to transport or home working allowance?
In the transport registration system, you can indicate per day whether you worked at a KLM location, at home or at another location. Only one choice is possible per day. If you split your workday between home and the office, you are free to choose which allowance to claim. If you're unsure, base your decision on where you spent the majority of the day. You cannot claim both a home office allowance and a commuting allowance for the same day. Registrations can be submitted up to three months retroactively, with payments made the following month.
On some occasions you may neither work at a KLM location or at home, for example a multi-day duty travel. In that case, you can enter the other work location as the destination in the transport registration system. You must then assign the journey to a budget, and in this case, you would choose ‘duty travel’. In the Declaratie beleid KLM you can find more information about which costs you may claim during duty travel or a course.
How much is the transport allowance?
Starting from 1st November 2024, the new transport policy will take effect. From that date, higher reimbursements will be offered for sustainable forms of transport. The following allowances will apply:
Commuting | Agreements transport ladder * |
Walking & cycling | € 0.30 per km |
Public transport | Free public transport 2nd class |
Fossil fuel vehicles | €0.19 per km. Max 50 km single journey with arrival/departure time between 07:30-23:00 hours |
€0.21 per km. Max 50 km one way with emergence/reporting time between 23:00-07:00 | |
Electric vehicles | €0.22 per km. Max 50 km one way |

Car | €0.28 per km. Unlimited kilometres |
Public transport | Free public transport 1st class |
* Transport ladder only applies to journeys within the Netherlands |
How is the number of kilometres determined?
The number of kilometres is calculated on the basis of the route you enter. The route planner of the transport registration system takes the fastest route as a starting point. The route planner is updated approximately once per quarter.
What is the remaining transport allowance?
According to fiscal regulations, a maximum of €0.23 cents (as of 1st January 2024) per kilometre may be reimbursed tax-free for your commute, based on the usual route and up to a maximum of 50 kilometres one way. As a ground employee, KLM pays you the allowances set out in the CLA. The tax allowance varies depending on the means of transport used.
If you have any remaining transport allowance, you can convert gross pay to net pay up to the tax-free limit. This is determined by two factors: the distance beyond 50 kilometres (one way) and the available fiscal margin for distances up to 250 kilometres.
The available fiscal margin depends on how you travel to your workplace and the corresponding untaxed allowance you receive. What this fiscal margin is depends on how you travel to your workplace and thus what untaxed allowance you receive. If you travel to work by public transport and use the NS Business Card, there is no tax allowance because KLM then pays the costs (on the basis of second class) for you. There is no minimum mileage requirement.
You can read what this scheme means for you in the brochure ‘KLM cafeteria scheme’. You can find more information about and apply for the remaining travel allowance on the Cafetaria scheme page.
What about business mileage?
Business mileage is different from the mileage you drive for your commute. You can also register kilometres driven for business purposes in the transport registration system via MyKLM. However, a different reimbursement applies here. In the Handbook declaration control on the KLM Accounting Services website, you can find how to declare kilometres driven for business purposes and what the conditions are.
What is the personal contribution for a parking pass?
Since 1st March 2022, there is no longer a personal contribution for the parking pass.
If your duty station is Schiphol-Centre and you do not have a parking pass, you are entitled to an additional transport allowance. This allowance will be €30.00 per month from 1st July 2024 and will be shown separately on your salary slip.
I am unfit for work, am I still entitled to a transport allowance?
No, if you are ill, you do not incur any costs for transport to work and will not receive a transport allowance.
I’m reintegrating, am I entitled to a transport allowance?
Yes, in certain cases, you may qualify for an adjusted transport allowance. If you are partially unfit for work but still working in your regular or an adapted role, you can log your journeys in the transport registration system.
You may also be eligible for transport reimbursement when attending work on a therapeutic basis. This also applies if you're fully unfit for work and need to travel for occasional visits to your manager, company doctor, or reintegration officer. Your manager can provide more information on this.
Am I entitled to a transport allowance?
Anyone covered by the cockpit collective labour agreement is not entitled to transport allowance. However, you can make use of the remaining transport allowance scheme if you are a tax payer in the Netherlands, you can also qualify for non-standard transport allowance. You need to submit your application in full months.
What is the remaining transportation allowance?
According to tax regulations, a maximum of 23 euro cents per kilometre can be reimbursed tax-free. Anyone who does not have 'transport on account of the employer' (a lease car, group transport or another form of transport organised by the employer) can qualify for this. With the remaining transport allowance, you can exchange a gross salary for net salary up to the amount you can have tax-free transport allowance. There is no minimum mileage requirement. Find out what this scheme means for you in the brochure KLM Cafeteria Plan brochure. You can find more information about and apply for the remaining transport allowance on the Cafeteria scheme.

I am an intern, am I entitled to a transport allowance?
In general, as an intern you are legally entitled to a student travel product on your OV-chipcard, which you keep during your internship. If your student travel product is insufficient, you may be eligible for a transport allowance for your internship.
- If you have a weekly season ticket, you can continue to use it and KLM will not pay you a transport allowance for weekdays. If you have (extra) shifts during the weekend, you are entitled to a transport allowance from KLM for those days.
- If you have a weekend pass and your internship period is longer than 3 months, you will have to convert your card to a weekly pass. Any costs for this conversion will be covered by KLM. KLM will not pay you a transport allowance for the weekdays, but if you have (extra) shifts during the weekend or an attendance that is outside the travel possibilities of public transport, you will be entitled to a transport allowance for those days. If you travel by public transport, you can claim your train tickets for this (based on second class) via the claim tool in the registration system via MyKLM. If you travel by car or bicycle, you can register a trip in this same system to receive a reimbursement. DUO does not allow you to convert your season ticket between 1st May and 25th August. For this period, you can apply for a KLM transport allowance using the transport allowance registration system. You should then convert your card from 26th August.
- If your traineeship is shorter than 3 months and you have a weekend season ticket, you do not need to convert your season ticket. You will then be entitled to the KLM transport allowance for the days you are at your internship site.
As an Intern, when am I entitled to a transport allowance?

You are entitled to transport allowance if you meet the following two conditions:
- You have an actual attendance to the place of employment where you work.

- - You have an actual to the place of employment where you work.

You work alternating shifts and you do have a student travel product
In some exceptional situations, you are entitled to a transport allowance if you have a student travel product:
- Your student travel product on your OV-chipcard is not valid because you have an actual attendance outside the weekdays.
- You have an actual attendance that is outside the travel options of public transport.
* When registering, you do not need to add a statement from DUO, but must be in possession of one. We check this every now and then and expect you to provide us with the statement within two weeks. If you are unable to hand over this copy from DUO and/or have entered incorrect data in MyRoster, this may lead to sanctions or measures such as a warning or even termination of the internship.
What if I cannot use a student travel product?
For example, in the summer period from 16th July 04.00 to 16th August 04.00 the student travel product does not apply. If you travel to your internship placement during this period, or any other period when the student travel product does not apply, you can register your attendance as mentioned above through the transport registration system and KLM will pay out your transport allowance.
