KLM employee engagement

Employee engagement is the degree to which you feel motivated, empowered, and energised to perform at your best. Engaged employees feel connected to, believe in and are ambassadors of KLM. Whether you work on board, in the hangar or in the office. When you're engaged, you love your job. You're enthusiastic about it and you do it because you want to, not because you have to. You feel good about yourself, are productive and creative, and can handle challenges well. This is great for our colleagues and important for KLM as an employer.
How engaged are KLM staff - how engaged are you? And what can we do to increase engagement within KLM? It's important to constantly stay in dialogue, with colleagues, as a team, and with your manager. We, as KLM, want to gather input from all employees so that managers and employees can gain insight into what they can do to increase their own engagement and that of their colleagues. After all, we're all responsible for creating a culture and environment where everyone feels comfortable, is supported in the right way to make a difference and can better achieve KLM's strategic goals.
How do we gather input on engagement within KLM
Listening Cycle
In addition to engaging with each other to stay connected and make sure everyone feels heard, the Listening Cycle was designed. This is the process we use to listen to everyone and translate this feedback into an improved working experience.
Are you curious what the different steps in the Listening Cycle entail or how you can go through these steps and apply them in your own team. Then contact the Engagement Lead within your division. If you don't know who your Engagement Lead is, then email employee.surveys@klm.com, we'll help you out!
KLM Employee Survey
Every two years, we conduct large-scale research into the engagement of all KLM employees via the KLM Employee Survey. With this, we learn what the main drivers of engagement are and where improvement is needed. This survey was sent out for the first time in June 2023. More information about this survey can be found on the page KLM Employee Survey.
KLM Connect
We also believe it is important to stay in touch with you in the interim and to know how you are doing. We do this through KLM Connect, a short survey that every KLM employee receives once every six months. We also think it's important to hear whether you feel that something is being done with your feedback and whether progress is being made. KLM Connect was first shared with KLM Colleagues in June 2024 to replace the Employee Promoter Score. This is the question asking to what extent recommend KLM as an employer. More information on KLM Connect can be found here.
Engagement Index
The Employee Promoter Score remains an important indicator. However, this question doesn't provide sufficient insight into employee engagement. The Engagement Index, on the other hand, consists of four questions and gives a better picture of engagement. The Employee Promoter question is included in the four questions. The Engagement Index is an important part of both the KLM Employee Survey and KLM Connect. To learn more about the Engagement Index and how it is calculated, visit this page.
Surveys throughout your career at KLM
Onboarding survey
New to KLM? Then we'd like to hear about your first experience and what you think could be improved during your onboarding at KLM. From January 2024, all new colleagues will receive a short survey after five working days and again after 90 working days, this will help us to know how we can continue improving our onboarding for new colleagues.
Offboarding survey
Are you leaving KLM? What a shame, but even now we are curious to know how your experience within KLM has been as well as what you think could be improved. From June 2024, all colleagues leaving KLM will receive a short survey. This input is very valuable for optimising our employee experience.
In-depth surveys on certain topics
Every now and then, you'll receive other surveys on a specific subject. With these surveys, we'd like to know what you think about certain topics. Think about subjects such as Diversity & Inclusion or hybrid working.
Would you like more information from your team?
Besides the KLM-wide surveys, you may want to obtain more information at team level. The best approach is to start the conversation. A survey can sometimes help with this, providing a lot more insight in one go. This can be done via ListenUp. With this tool, you can create and send surveys at team level. More information can be found at ListenUp.
